March 26, 2010

Like the year before, on March 10, 2010, at the cemetery in Sahryn (near Hrubieszów) mourning prayer was served for the Orthodox Ukrainians — residents of Sahryn and neighboring villages, who died in 1944. That day the 66th anniversary of the tragedy in village Sahryn has fallen, that on the night from 9 to 10 March 1944, was attacked by branch of the Home Army. Then over 800 people were killed.

The funeral service March 10, 2010, was celebrated by the priest from Tomaszów. The nuns from monastery church of Protection of the Mother of God in Turkowice were praying with him.

Several months ago at the cemetery in Sahryn, a monument was erected. It was planned that in its unveiling and dedication had to take part Polish and Ukrainian presidents. This ceremony was to take place last year, but did not occur. Date for the unveiling and dedication of the monument for Orthodox Ukrainians who were murdered in Sahry? not known.
