Classical Learning Resource Center Offers Fall Greek Classes

August 11, 2009

The Classical Learning Resource Center, an Orthodox online school, perfect for homeschoolers and schools, is now enrolling students for on-line classes in Latin, Greek, Homer, Philosophy, and Greek Mythology. Deadline for Fall Registration is Friday, August 28th.

Education is a process of opening closed doors in the mind and heart to lead students to virtue and to a deeper understanding of God and His creation. Central to this process is to surround students with images of virtue, nobility, honor, purity, sacrifice, loyalty, and beauty. We all pray and work to do this by example, but as teachers we also seek to do this through the literature, poetry, art, music, science, and theology that we study with our students. At C.L.R.C. we understand that education is an act of love rooted deeply in the relationship between teacher and student and among students and their peers.

The Classical Learning Resource Center was established by Reader Matthew Gallatin (author of Thirsting for God in a Land of Shallow Wells), Subdeacon John Van Fossen (founding headmaster of the Saint John of Damascus Academy), and Anne Van Fossen (Director of Program and Curriculum Development and Ancient Language instructor at the Saint John of Damascus Academy), all members of Holy Myrrhbearers Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Registration for Academic Year 2009-2010 will remain open for 3 more weeks.

All registrations must be received by Friday, August 28th.

As the C.L.R.C. continues to grow, more faculty and classes will be added to our program. Resources (reading lists, curriculum, teacher training, and other online content) will also be made available for elementary school children to help homeschool parents and educators prepare young children for online Middle School and High School classes. Future plans also include the development of a retreat center so that High School students or adults who take classes with us could come to Northern Idaho to take part in one or two week intensive classes. As we consider possible directions for growth and new course offerings we have designed a survey to provide us with more information about the needs and desires of Orthodox homeschooling parents. The survey should only take about 5 minutes of your time. We would very much appreciate your input.
