OCA Synod Meets in Dallas May 11 & 12

April 22, 2009

(Dallas, TX) His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah announced today that Archpriest Joseph Fester has been named Chancellor of the Diocese of the South and Mr. Milos Konjevich as Administrator.  In his letter to the DOS Diocesan Council His Beatitude stated,

“I have asked Archpriest Joseph Fester to be Chancellor of the Diocese of the South and Milos Konjevich to continue in his role as Treasurer and Administrator.  Both will report to me on a weekly basis, or more frequently if necessary.  The Deans and the Diocesan Council will be meeting on a regular basis, and we will move toward a more conciliar process of decision making within the Diocese.  I will rely heavily on the Deans and the Chancellor as the primary administration overseeing the parishes and deaneries; and on the Administrator to continue to develop and promote the financial model which has made the diocese so successful.”

His Beatitude also announced that the DOS Diocesan Council will meet in Dallas on May 11 at 10:00AM. The meeting will be prior to the  Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America gathering in Dallas for the Feast of Mid-Pentecost to honor His Eminence, Archbishop Dmitri. The Synod will meet the evening of May 11 and 12.

In closing his letter to the Diocesan Council, His Beatitude gave direction to the DOS in discerning God’s will in the selection of its next ruling hierarch –

“ I am sure you are all curious about who your next bishop will be and how this will take place. The Lord knows who your next bishop will be and in due time His will for the Diocese of the South will be clear to all of us. Finding the next ruling hierarch for the diocese will be a unique challenge given that His Eminence has been your only bishop and given that this diocese is not like any other diocese in the Orthodox Church in America. Thus we must first pray for Godly discernment.

A special petition will be written and distributed to all parishes in the diocese to begin this process. Further updates on the search process for a hierarch for the Diocese of the South will be communicated prior to the Diocesan Council meeting in May.
